Story Board

We split the song into three thirds, and worked as a group to compose and finish the story board for our music video.

Time line

Unfortunately we found out that our previous idea of using the swimming pool won’t be possible as the actual pool would not be heated and cleaned for the cast to go in it.

So we decided as a group to look carefully at the time line and plan step by step to see if we have enough elements and if it will get repetitive or not.

The time line took us two lesson as we planned second by second splitting the song into little section. We helped each other to find enough elements and ideas to cover the full song time, ending up with the right and hoped result.

By following the actual time line we should have enough elements, and a built up through out the music video t make it interesting for the viewers.

Those elements will include: Girls doing ‘bitchy’ stares, the main singer (Juli) lip sync, two girls finding old roller skaters and using them in a cordon, the girls flooding a bath and playing with the water, throwing paint at the wall, smashing up a kitchen, using a lighter, standing by the pool, boarded up window to create a playful effect with the light, and blowing and popping bubble gum.

Set designers

Monday we met the set designer girls. We briefly explained our idea for the music video, our main inspiring source and showed them the song as well as pictures of the location and the prop and costume list.

They really liked the idea of having an empty house and have the freedom of doing whatever we like with it, giving us lots of new ideas and elements we could incorporate in our music video to make it more fun and more interesting for the audience.

As they came out with lots of ideas in progression of our music video, we are hoping to see them the shooting day and have them with us to help us finding cool shots and maybe spontaneous ideas seeing the location.  

Some of the ideas that they gave us that we really appreciate were:

-       Flooding a bath

-       Throwing paint at the wall

-       Roller skating onto carpet (making the girls fall over and laughing about it)

-       Making a hole in the wall

-       Smash a light bulb

-       Use the swimming pool

-       Dancing

-       Boarded up window

Song usage permission

In our lesson we split into two group while me and Hannah were doing the prop and costume list Harvey was composing an email to send to the recording label of Pray (Empty Gun) to check that we won’t have any problems with copy right. It’s is very important step for our Advanced Portfolio the acceptation of the song usage, even thought if declined we will still be able to work with it and planned our project as needed.

Once we found the contact detail of the Universal record label Harvey wrote a structured email, given by our teacher Phill.
