Feedbacks from the focus group

The other day throughout our media class we had class from the year below giving us feedbacks about our three products; music video, digipak, website.
All this was done in order to see if the look for each of this product will appeal to an actual targeted audience and in case make changes and finalise our products.
We prepared each element at it best at this stage even if not fully finished, and prepared some questions to get response from this mix audience.

The crucial thing was to obtain their full involvement into the respond of the question, and to be as details and specific as possible. Each of the product has been shown separately and related questions to be answered, starting from digipak, website and ending with the music video, considered the least changeable for its footage.
Everything has been filmed and recorded as well as noted to get as many feedbacks as possible.

Key Points Digipak

-       The colour scheme is seen as too dark so it is to consider a possible change of the background black to white.
-       The snake decoration at the back of the digipak was not appreciated as much as other elements but they like the presence of the snakeskin in the interior part of the disk.
-       The design of it appealed to most of the audience and got the right idea of the artist as well as the genre of music (indie pop).

Key Points Website

-       The overall look was appreciated as seemed high end, however we received observations about the colour scheme the incorporation of the green was disliked with the association of the white background so darker tone would appeal more.
-       Instrumental pictures need to be removed as confuse the idea of the artist change its real and wanted representation.
-       The audience like the easy usage of it and the amount of different features incorporated, they express the desire of seeing more pictures of the main artist as well as a verity for both genders in the shop section.

Music Video

The music video was appreciated and considered well produced and edited.
Overall we had a positive respond from the audience as they all express the like and dislike in details giving us useful information for the finalisation ad development of the products. Scheme colour, presence of snake as not fully understood and desire of seeing more graffiti as one of the main featured in the music video, in all three products. This focus group gave us good points where we can carry on the realisation of the project obtain the best result.

Focus Group

Objectives

The objective of a focus group is to gain as many feedbacks from a targeted audience about a selection of different or single products, in this case we will prepared a focus group regarding our three products; digipak, website and music video questioning their design and other features.

This will help to gain quantitative information about those products, asking particular question and analysing their responses by looking at their physical and verbal responses. All this hopefully will benefit the realisation of the products, showing improvements of those later on, making it more appealing for our targeted audience.

The audience that would be involved is teenagers, male and female.

What to achieve

In a focus group you want to gain as many information and as detailed as possible, to succeed it is best not to ask restrictive questions that require a yes/no answer. Being more generic and open about the topic will help to gain a wider personal response.
From the focus group we would like to achieve different opinions about our three products, negative and positive feedback to improve those and finalise the elements in question.

Important for the audience

Making the audience comfortable is a crucial part of the experiment, as you want to receive as truthful responses with no corruption or any kind of pressure. To eliminate the possibility of changing the audience points of view to please the producer a different component from a different group will present the products, asking the assigned questions.

To decrease the possibility of pressure to the minimal we will be presenting to an audience of 8-10 people, involving every single participant.
Specific questions will be prepared before the actual day and note taking will be taking place as well as recording and filming on the day to make sure nothing will be missing.
Being smiley without backing any responses and accepting any kind of responses towards the products, help towards the understanding of specific questions will settle the audience making them more willing to help for the realisation of this project.

Reminder for us as a group

Digipak and website will be seen before the illustration of the music video to have separate feedback for each element and than have an overall view, also seeing if the artist and genre of music is well developed and represented.

Studio

To complete and personalised the digipak and the website Hannah and me decided to take pictures of our main singer featured in the music video.
A we are talking about a solo artist it will be best to picture her by her self, making clear this aspect of the artist. Her style will be different than the one portrayed in the music video, however of similar style, so the audience can relate the different products, Juli‘s costume for the shooting was black velvet trousers and a black laced top, her make up was a lot more simplistic as we wanted to show the natural aspect of the artist, with a dark rose lipstick and eyeliner, her hair was made in two douche plats.
The shooting was followed in the studio, using a black background and a soft box as the main light, a beauty dish and a blue and yellow filter to add a subtle green to the pictures to refer back to the music video.

The shoot overall was successful as we obtain enough pictures to play with both products and our main model was being very helpful and willing to work at her best.

In additional for the website we went to recording studio to get some shots of just instruments and recording equipment to add more features and images.

Website

Hanna was in charge of the website, creating all the design and several aspects incorporated within the site, for example the media site, the shop and the tour date and tickets. She managed to complete those at the best of their functionality adding lots of professional high tech features.

Connection across all three products needs to be shown, as the footage of the video is not changeable the remaining elements to complete the product needs to adapt and work around the idea of the artist portrayed in the video.

The website has been customised with the idea of green lighting a big elements that will appear across all three panels, and style and genre will be shown by the design of it looking at texts, scheme colours, and extra features that will represent our idea of the artist.

Hannah did a great job creating a detail shop element in the website that incorporated the idea and meaning of our artist and her name SIOUX little snake.

Editing

As Harvey has followed the editing and developed his skills and knowledge with the use of Adobe editing software, which it has been shown with different techniques presented in the music video, each of those has special command and precise steps to follow to obtain the best result.

Harvey has been really good at executing the video so far, smartly using all the footage made and creating certain appeal and design to the video. All this has been followed with an accurate attention to details of the beat of the music and the lip sync of the artist featuring different elements around those two main elements.

He is currently working onto different special effect to add to the video, for example fast editing, mirror and reversing the footage to add on top of it more the idea and representation of our artist.

This is a video that shows Harvey works, done in this ultimate days.

Collaboration

As this project is made of three different elements that all required individual care and attention to details we decided as a group to split to execute those at their best. Harvey would be doing the editing, Hannah is in charge of website and I will be caring of the digipak, this will help the organisation and finalisation of three products, we will all daily keep in contact and update each other on all three products, confronting our different opinions and taste about the production of those, adapting them to obtain the best result.

As the music has been shot and we cannot change the actual footage, website and digipak will need to work around it showing a connection across all the elements and representing the same idea of music genre and artist.

The reaches for each elements will be followed individually as well as in a group.  Any needed of help or problems will be discuss, and considered by each of us sorting it out as soon as possible, in the most efficient and productive way.

By following this working method of specialising into the different sectors I believe the three products would come out it best, finally presenting a great project.
