 Set Design

The design for the set is one of the biggest out of the school. We decided to build a set composed from 4 panels standing up right to be part of the wall and than we added other two and the top to create the idea of a celling. The room is not too big, as we wanted to effect of claustrophobia, but we obviously needed enough space to film in it and work around with cameras.

To make it look more appealing we used a brick wall designed and painted of grey to give the illusion of concrete, as wallpaper. To light the room up we used four light bulbs, distances to each other to create a dull light but light enough to film with a good quality light and create vary effects with it.

We then added the keys hanging from the celling, it took us half a day to put all the keys and we still thought we didn’t have enough to fill the entire room, but the final result was better than we expected to be.
We used two chains and attached them to the end of the first two panels to keep the padlock in place and centre on the door, the chains were old and rusty to carry on with the vintage look, it actually added something to it, making the padlock standing out even more, and acting as a focused point.

To create the effect of a being in a cell we tried to used a grid and lighting it from behind having the shadows of it, but it didn’t work, as we wanted to because the lighting was darker than expected and it would have been to difficult to shoot in it and show all the details. The lighting once we started to film was visually different so we adjusted the camera setting and brightened or darken some shots. For the close up we moved around a light bulb to light the exact focus point and show it clearly to the viewers.

Other than that the set was ferly easy to clear, once we finished shooting the only disadvantage we had it was that other students decided to use an easier location, or more available so in case they needed few more shoot they could have gone back to the place and the missing bits, oppositely to us that we had to be as precised as possible as once the location was cleared out at the end of the day we had not chance to set everything up again, however this didn’t cause ant problems as at the end of the day we ended up with enough shots.
