Are U There? Overall Design

Are U There represent the house genre, DJ and remix will be the musicians of the situation
collaborating with singers, with this fact the idea of the artist’s image goes into second place placing the meaning and the beat the main focus.
The same thing has to be reflected into the digipack and website to have a feeling of continuity.
For the digipack taking the inspiration from tattoo and the actual song I thought that the title or the name of the artist could be represented with the figure of a hear beat and the name connected at the end. The writing would be clear and I believe it is a good idea to have a symbol or an image that fans can recognise the artist. By keeping the front cover of the album the artist would have a positive representation, showing that sometimes less can do more, and showing that there isn’t the need of showing lots, because the music is the main protagonist, this will also differentiate from the other artists.
However, I thought that even a still image could come out as a good digipack making the look of the album to buy more interesting, following the trend a simple shape with clear and thin line could be added ad frame of the picture making the whole perspective more futuristic and modern, also updated with trends.
We want the genre of music to come across clearly.
The website should follow the same line, but depending onto which didgipack the website will be affected; however they will present the same line, just the gamut of colours will change and the inserting different pictures. But the idea of simplistic will carry on.
My inspiration came from the tattoo and by looking several house musicians and their style.

The difficulty into the website is that it could come out too empty and boring following the instruction of the digipack, because I must not forget a single picture could have a bigger impact straight on, but a webpage is something you want to be looked at several time and to express the passion of the artist.

Are U There?

My third and last idea for a music video will include the song Are U There? by Mura Masa. The genre is house music and it is completely different from the other two options, giving three different choices over choice of music and style. I wanted to show creativity not only through the difference ideas for the music videos, but also music wise.
As the style of the song is different than what we usual hear on TV, I would like this to reflect in the video, by using the latest trends and creating something new. I admit that this genre of music may not appeal or interest everyone, this could create some uncertainty about music choice and interpretation, by all mean having less likes.
However I believe this could be a challenge as we would need to look more into detailed all the trends and people music taste, creating a video that they would enjoy watching maybe discovering a new type of music, in a positive way.
First thing that would differentiate from the other two examples is the unknown of the artist, creating mystery and interest towards the audience.
In this type of song I believe that the look, appealing of the artists passes into second place, giving a deeper meaning to the song.
The first idea to make this video is too tell a journey, so it would be mainly shooting outside with a group of teenager going travelling to discover something of unknown. The video could either show their experiences and what they learnt from it, seeing up and down. However this will signify good weather conditions, something really difficult to rely on in this country, the shooting will be done in one or two days during the winter term and Hurtwood is mainly surrounded by woods, it could interesting fro dew shots but I personally wouldn’t incorporated in the whole music video.
This video could start with a boy being the main character of the whole clip, lying in his bed and listening to music, especially a song that will bring him to the memories of the night before. The flash back would bring the boy into a club with his friends, while there were ordering some drinks, he noticed this girl and her group of friends doing the same tings beside them. Few crossing of looks and then they all start dancing to this song (the same he will be listening in his room). I imagine this part of the video with images of the girls dancing, some slow motion shots and close ups, also it will be good as a contrast of lighting will be created with the change of scene from the bedroom to the club.
While the guy is trying to get near her she decides to leave, disappearing from the crowd. The main character doesn’t give and keeps looking for her in the club and then goes out hoping to find an answer or something that could help him finding her.
Close ups of the girls would appear as blared, unfocused or unsteady camera work to emphasise the idea of not clear memory.
As there are only two elements, the idea of the woods could be inserted even though I believe the video could work without it.
The video could end with the main character finding a piece of paper with a phone number, her phone number.
As the images of the club aren’t clear the sequence could mix up, and some bits could be missing.

Ashes music video designa and marketing campign

The song Ashes represent our idea of pop, so the video, artist and design of the digipack and website will be modern.
Starting with the digipack I would use a photo of the main artist as the front cover, he would be accurately styled maybe something used in the music video, and dark grey or black background to have all the attention drawn to main start, the solo singer.
To make it more interesting maybe a game of lights could be added, however the more simple we’ll leave it the better. The picture it self could be the main artist profile, I was think at a mid shot or full length figure this to make it more interesting could be transformed into a drawing creating a vignette effect and having the unknown figure of the singer with a significant artist touch, for example a colourful hat or something distinctive.
So here we have two version of the possible album cover.

The font for the title will be in capital, squared style and big emphasising the idea of modern, this will be also used for the website.
The website design should be simple and straightforward; maybe some pattern could be used for the background, or a motive or line or different shades. It must have a defined trend and it should be clarify the presence of a male artist’s work.
The idea of the dancers should remain within the music video as it is something common to see, especially nowadays, after the artist Sia started a propel trend of using dancers to tell the story and meaning of her music.
The identity of the artist here will be clear and the design must be simple as we don’t’ want it to overcome the main image, that will also respect the idea and type of artist presented.
I the combination of colour shouldn’t be more than three and hey should, for example white, blue and light brown/cream.
Lots of pictures of the star should be shown depending on the type of the audience we want to attract I would say teenager, or young adults so the look of the artist in case will be important, as they would start relate the song to an actual image and maybe later with fame, even a propel genre and style of music.

Ashes

My second idea for a music video is to use the pop song Ashes by Sergio Sylvestre. This song reclaims movement and joy as the lyrics it self talks about turning the ashes into fire.
I chose this song, as it has a completely different genre from the previous one, giving ore space to creativity especially as the song has a stronger sense of music.
The start is a male character with a strong voice power. This song has already a professional music video that i could compare it with.
To start with I would present the main star in the studio performing lip sink to show who is the main artist. I would like him to be very styled to add a sense of fashion to the video; this would respect the look of the artist and the music, requiring accurate and detailed research.
The start will be showed twice with two different styled but of similar style.
The next scene will be more of a narrative, telling a short story of two friends and dancers.
Two teenage characters a girl and boy that are good schoolmates and in common have the love for dance. The girl is a shy ballet dancer that can only show her feelings through the dance, however her friend is an extroversive pop dancer with a stronger character that wants to help her friend to come out as a person as well as dancer.
This scene will be divided into three parts, a first introduction of the girl in a lesson and her friend coming in and taking her out to escape and end up in a dance studio where will see pop and ballet mixing together, later on a group of dancer will come in fro lesson and they will be impressed of the girl capacity and talent, it will end up will all the dancers together having fun and doing a small choreography all together with the main singer as well.
In this video the idea of colour through clothes and movements will be the centre of the whole clip, respecting the genre pop and some of the latest trends.
Nowadays music videos with dancers are very popular, as they mix two talents, singing and dancing.
I chose this sequence because it could be easily done at school will all our facilities and the presence of talented people to choose from for the casting.
The scene in the studio could be easily presented with simple dull light and a dark background, showing contrast or it could be the exact opposite to increase the idea of pop. Here it depends on the type of character we will be choosing from, as he has to fit the voice but the enthusiasm of the song and be able to transmit the wanted feeling to the audience.
The difficulties in this video will be the attention for details and the control over everything especially in the last scene where lost of characters will appear on screen. By making this video there will be a fine line from a professional result or the exact opposite.
From the original clip I decided to keep few aspects, for example the idea of presenting the main start with different styles and show the movements through dancing.
This video may take a lot longer to make, as the dancers will need to find time to rehearsal all together as the final results needs to look great on camera. Lots of costumes will be needed, the number of dancers need is not decided yet, because it depends of what results we want to obtain at the end.
The creativity won’t be missing in this video, and collaboration and team work will be crucial as there will be lots of artists and filming people working all together in a restrictive place and amount of time.
In comparison this idea it’s a lot more simplistic as we have seen something similar on screen several times, the unique argument will be actual collaboration and introduction of two completely different styles together, done by teenagers and using a unknown pop song.

The audience that I am aiming at it is definitely teenagers, as the story and the message it is simple and straight forwards. It can reflect onto someone also life style and those could relate them self with some of the characters in the video.

Design Of The Music Video & Marketing Campaig

Something’s Gonna Happen

The style of this music video will a modernised vintage.
This will respect the digipack, as well as the marketing campaign (website). The image that will be transmitted through the video will respect the artist personality and style, making a clear first impression of the type or artist, person and music.
My inspiration comes from pinup and tattoos; this came up by mixing the idea of the 60 and modern days. The main colours will be red, black and white, three strong colours that will a defined look to the website.

For the digipack I thought a plain background could be use and as main figure a cartoon/tattoo version of the main singer. The picture could be presented in full figure or silhouette, possibly just the drawing of her face with typical make up and heir styled could be transmitting strong feelings and genres of music to the customers.

However the whole design mustn’t look too aggressive, as it would respect the message and genre of the song.
The font I think it should definitely be curved, as it will reclaim the idea of vintage, for example old letter writing but clearly readable. I believe that the thickness will change the message of the song, if the writing will be thin maybe a more feminine idea will be transmitted, however a bolder font could increase the idea of a tattoo and done with black ink could be more visible and outstanding.

The position will be important as well as, at first I thought it would have been a good idea to have the title all around the figure making a circle, but I admit that it might look chaotic, so maybe just at the bottom of it would have a more professional final result.
The website design will respect the artist but I believe it’s better if it differentiate from the digipack as one incorporated within the webpage, it won’t stand out enough fro the customers to be involved to buy it and listen to the song.

I choose this style as it will respect the theme in the music video, but also it is a lot different from what we see nowadays, making the digipack standing out, and hopefully draw more attention and curiosity to listen to the song and knowing more about the artist.
