Update on Digipak

The main changes that I have done to the digipak were:

- the decision for the main front cover, as the image of the artist it is based onto a single picture

- darken the pink writing to make it look more indie than pop

- the back of the digipak had the background added to show continuity across the four different panels, smaller hand writing so instead of using 8 I went down to 6, for a more ascetically pleasing factor.

- more needed features have been added for the example the production logo and bar code

- a different calculation of the spine and insert of text has been completed

Final Result

Digipak Research

To complete and finalise the digiapk as group we have looked at varies digipak, where analysing their design we could have taken inspiration.

As I am building a digipak I found it very useful to see real products that have been successful within the music industry. Looking at their design you can tell a lot about the music genre and artist, and this is what I am try to gain as an overall result for the product adding an appeal and sense of design to it.

The main featured I have noticed that will influence my next working step towards the product is the spine as I have not consider it yet within the design and the writing as it is smaller than i thought.

The most effective design as the simple and with an empty effect, however we have to represent the idea of youth and rebellion of our artist image which need a more complicate and important visual effect. The name of the artist and image are most recurrent features that appear in most example which I have already included.

Combining the two websites

The next day we discuss as group and with our teacher presence of the two websites. To obtain the best result and design of the product is it best to find the balance between the two, combining the good feature of both into a single product.

We are going to use our website making additional changes, for example Hannah wider design fits better for the visualisation of the site overall. The media part has been well executed and created by Hannah so that would be inserted into the new site, as well as the shop featured will be added to add an extra interesting element for our artist.

The rest is remaining the same, for example the logo, background, main entrance image, pop ups, etc.

New Website

For the website Hannah has worked onto a different proto type, inspired by MO official website taking a high consideration of its simplicity and amount of elements features to present a completed website for her audience.

The following day, Harvey and me because of Hannah absence we have analysed into depth the website and decide to build one our own basing onto to Hannah and MO.
As we already has a starting point we already new how we wanted to look like, however neither of us has the experience or had the knowledge to built a complete new website from scratch.
To be more efficient and try to complete several tasks, while Harvey was figuring out the use of WIX, and built the base of the website I was searching different backgrounds to be inserted.
Using Photoshop I change the saturation and colour scheme of each background to keep up with the continuity factor, the use of green.
Each background has gone through Photoshop and had their resolution increased up to 300 to make the overall quality higher.

The font used was based on the digipak, FUTURA to show fluency across the two products, and the main images taken from the photo shoot previously done have been incorporated in several features of the website.

The main added elements were pop ups to market the release of the artist’s new music video, and a moving image that Harvey made with the use of iMovie to recreate the same effect that MO portrays in her website.

The main difficulties found were found in the overall building of the website, however Harvey experimenting around with the site ended up obtain the result we wanted and we were pleased of the final result even if not finished.

Music Video

Now that the music video has been completed, finalising the last few details within the editing, as a group we can fully concentrate fully onto the other two products obtain the best results.

As a group we are very pleased of the music video, and proud of the teamwork put in during the shooting day and after.

Changes Of The Website

The initial website has been changed with the inspiration of MO official website.

Things that have changed:

- size of the site
- features included have been decreased, making the overall use easier and more simple
- Media sites have been included
- background
- insert of the logo

Logo

During this lesson we noticed that we are missing a very important element in the website, the logo so Harvey using a software on his laptop decided to design it, incorporating the name of the artist, the meaning (little snake) and the colour green.

The final result is very good and it will be portrayed several times in the website as a focal part of the artist recognition for the audience, however we tried to incorporate it in the digipak but the use of colour and font do not much with this single art product.

Hannah can now added it into her design and having one more element should facilitate her with further planning for the website finalising the whole product.

As a group we have also decided to change the design for the website as seemed to be high end and too formal from the focus group, so we took one of our main inspiring artist MO art work and decided to based the whole product on that style but innovating it.

So the next step would be to remove some element presented in the made website and transform it into a more simplistic design.

Digipak

From the focus group feedback, as a group we have all agree about the changes to be made, related to the artwork. As now I have a base of the product I know what appeals to the audience, making the editing process straightforward. As a group we reviewed the main representative elements for our artist as a reminder of what we are looking for and the style to be designed around all three products, youth, rebellious, cool and stylish.

Harvey and me have looked for less formal font to use across the two products, and we ended up choosing for FUTURA, and change all the writing into capital. I clear the back page of the digipak making clean and with less distraction.

I then thought about a possible background that could portray all the representation of our main artist previously mentioned. I found marbling a good solution as colour changing its saturation I change the scheme colour to green, main element the shows continuity across all three products.

As a group we all liked the idea of a collage, so add a playful feeling to the art work, so I took a picture taken in the shoot and turned it into black and white. Removing its background I overlaid the two layers, ending up with the current effect.
I then added the title and name of the artist following the same font, Futura and using different colours to separate the two names and making it more clear for the audience.

For the inside of the digipak I decided to follow the themed started in the front cover, using a different marble with the same scheme colour across the panels.
The final effect is better than the previous version, however not finishes this product need further finalisation to be completed, concentrating onto the detail and the overall artist image
