What did we do the day before to set up for the shooting day?
The day before our shooting as a group we made sure we had all the prop and costumes needed and packed for the next day, we made sure everyone involved in the music video new exactly were to meet, what time and checked if they were still happy to be part of this project.
We sent texts to each individual specifying and reminding them what we want in specific from them, accessories, hairstyle, makeup, additional costumes and props, to make it as clear as possible we also send pictures of what we are expecting and looking for fro the next day. Other than that we tried to remain positive and supportive overall as a group.
How did I feel when I woke up the morning of the shooting day?
The morning of the shooting day I woke up earlier to double check everything needed was in the right place, as two of the girls that were part of the casting live in the same boarding how I made sure they were feeling well and helped the with the make up and hair style to obtain the best result for the music video. I felt we were well prepared and organised as we previously made a schedule and a checklist of everything needed to tick while packing for the location drive. I was exited to make start the project but also a little bit anxious.
How well prepared were we as a group and when we arrive for our shoot what did we have to do before start shooting?
While I was helping the girls dressing up for the music video and finalise the last retouch, lie hair and accessories, Harvey and Hannah we packing the cars with the props, camera and lights.
We had an hour journey before getting to our actual location, so in this time we ensure ourselves as well as our casting. We talked to Luke the main media teacher that knows all the camera work and we worked out a plan for the shooting of the music video as well as our idea to finalise little details. Our main character was practising through out the all journey she new knew by hart the lyrics so the save time later on during the day.
Once we finally got to the location we gave a little tour to the cast and the teachers of the location, showing specific room where we wanted particular elements to happen. We then set up the lights and camera in the main room, meanwhile the main song was playing out loud so Juli could practise one more time, giving directions and directing the all cast around the location to be ready to filmed as soon as everything single elements was perfectly finalised. That took around 15 minutes.
Describe what the location looked like when we started to shoot, how well do we feel we managed to create the look of your concept?
As we were shooting on location it looked exactly as we left it last time we visited for the risk assessment. It was good to be on location so we didn’t have to waist any time onto changing or finalising details of the set.
How did we divide the roles on shoot day, what role(s) did I play?
I believe especially that as a group we were particularly successful at this as we divided our roles fro the production of the video as helped each other. Hannah and me were in charge of the function of the camera, rotating and helping each other to get effective shots, while Harvey was directing the cast to get out of them the best performance. As a group we helped with the lighting in the video and made sure everyone was feeling comfortable throughout the whole day.
What did I think that I personally did particularly well?
I personally believe I worked effectively with the functioning of the camera, as I was involved into the creation of creative shots as well as increasing my knowledge by leaning new elements thought by Luke throughout the day, for example the different lenses and handwork with camera. I was smiley and happy to bring positivity and I tried to help whenever I could, making the shooting day as efficient and productive as possible.
What problems did we have on the shoot day, how did we solve them?
Although we tried to be as prepared as possible we came across few obstacles that made the day less smooth and a bit more challenging, however we tried to solve them in the quickest way possible as we didn’t want to waist time.
The camera battery run out a couple time, but we made sure we had enough with us to kept the shooting day running. We also wanted to use the smoke bomb that unfortunately did not work so we decided to get rid of it, and replace it with other elements. One of the lights also broke, which it was not a big deal as we just replace with a spear.
All those problems were minor and we well handle as a group and with the teachers’ help.
Which part of the shoot did I think was most successful and why?
The decision of our cast, even if we made few changes the previous week, the group overall successively worked and suited, but our main singer Juli made outstanding performances nailing every single lip sync and being very collaborative. As well as the graffiti room with our main girl performing as the lighting and the camera work was at our best executed making it fun and an effective shot for our music video.
Which part of the shoot did I wish had gone better and why?
I believe that ort time management could have been better considered, even if we made a schedule some of the shots took longer than we planned, running out of time towards the end and rushing our work. If more time we could have included more elements and safely shoot everything needed and successively, to complete at it best the video, making the most out of the location, prop and cast.
How well do I think we managed our talent (actors)?
Throughout the day we made sure all of our talents were performing at their best. Harvey was the main person in charged of the direction of the cast as successively motivating them by complimenting the good thing they were doing and correcting them in the opposite case. AS a group we made sure everyone was good and feeling comfortable so the perform and collaborate as effectively as possible.
What was the part of the shoot I enjoyed the most?
I personally really enjoyed filming and the feeling of being part of a filming crew. As we were on location having the opportunity of filming in different room, adding different elements and feeling to it creating a story behind it. Choosing the room and analysing them if they are suitable for the running product making even spontaneous choices out of plan. For example the graffiti room has been of the most successively executed room and it became the perfect location for a third performance of our main singer, this room wasn’t at first planned to be made but on the day while we were working with Juli the rest of the cast had fun using spray paint in a single room that became a focus point of the project.
What am I looking forward to seeing the most in the edit?
I looking forward to see all the performances by our main singer and to see how the group overall looks like on camera and by audiences feedbacks. As we have several shots of those. All the footage will be interesting too see and fun to edit, creating a whole new product.
How well do I feel that my production group worked as a team?
I am personally so happy to be part of my media group, we all collaborated to make the mots out of the shooting day and we all helped and support each other throughout the pre production and production process, even if we all have different ideas and opinions and ideas we managed to the come up with a good creative idea and use our different skills to make good team work on the shooting day.
Are there any lessons I learned today that could help me when making my next shoot even more successful?
I have learnt so much from this shooting experience, starting from improving my management and organisation skills, teamwork as it was a crucial part to make the day as efficient and productive as possible. I have learnt specific terms and features of the filming camera that would help me not only with a possible filming suture but also with my photography projects if applicable. I have also learnt than for how well organised and thoughtful planned with such a project you will find some obstacle to be ready to react and find a quick solution to it to make the most out of it.
Are there any changes we might need to make to your website and artwork, in order for them to fit in with the video that you have shot?
As everything went as planned not additional changes should be made in preparation to our artwork and website.
