Music industry evolution

One thing that has always interested me in the music industry was the development of technology and how the artists adapted themselves to it, showing several updated through their campaigns and marketing.
As there are many genres of music this will affect in some sort of ways the approach and their viewpoints towards the new technology introduction.
For example one of the first type of technology utilised to listen to music at home was the disc vinyl, nowadays those are seen as pieces of collection or a decorative aspect for a house design, however vintage is not coming back trends wise, and some recent artists to call out those trends as started to sell theirs music through disc vinyl in addition to all the rest of technology. I believe this is done for several reasons; firstly the representation of music in a different perspective, especially if directed towards a younger audience, secondly following trends, thirdly a deeper knowledge onto the different technology and the progress of it, improving it and proposing something old as new, for a higher interest as the artist will definitely stand out more in comparison to others. Finally the research of them, as I mentioned earlier disc vinyl are now as form of collection products, this could higher the wanting of the product from the audience as the disc could be seen as unique, exclusive collection and more album come out with different features that could be the design of the digipack more people would want to have them.

The idea is really clever but not as function as the audience will need the apposite record player, plus a higher amount of money will need to be put to develop the dick vinyl into something more modern plus it is not secure they will sell having enough income to cover the prices spent for additional marketing campaign.
After discs vinyl the size of those started to change through the years becoming smaller and smaller, until the CD came out. CD is type of technology still on going nowadays but less present as t was around 10 years ago, it is composed of a small, compressed disc able to play around 18 songs less at the time of the respective artist. You also need a CD player, this is now presented in some computers, radio, TV and some cars, after CDs we had the introduction of USB a small technological key that can be import and export files, documents from those music ones as well and put into other devices, its portable as in small size and can contain a fair enough amount of files, more than a CD.
Those are still used occasionally but I personally prefer the exclusive use for export or import files from my laptop, I don’t usually fro music.
After that we started to have apps, for computers, than phone that can be payable and not, depending on the app, however this consist in the same process for CDs and USB the download of files directly into your portable device.
The most used are Soundcloud, Spotify, ITunes and many others.
However I believe that the most used is the official webpage of YouTube where you can find infinite type of music videos, lyrics and others, the main place of the music industry where unknown artist start posting their own music to be discovered by someone and you can find in live time the most recent trendy music of all time.
As we all know the evolution of technology has been huge since even the music was only produced in theatres.
Even the different genre of music where introduced through the development of technology has nowadays house, electro, techno and pop are the most popular genres, those that use technology to produce actual sounds, with the intention of listening to a new drop or different than the usual.

I decided to interview a friend as she is a teenager big fun of commercial music, she is also a dancer and she work in a CDs store, so I thought she would be a good person to be part and help me with my project.

So I’ve asked her 12 questions and answers, as she is Italian I’m translating all interview, but you can see the video of it with me interviewing her.

What type of music do you listen to?
-       As I’m passionate about hip hop I usually listen to commercial, most of the time a remix cover of it, some of the artist I like are Jason Derulo, Niky Minay and Rihanna.
What the most sold music of the moment, for teenager?
-       Commercial and Techno as usually the like to party the weekend getting effected by those.
What do you do to be updated with the newest songs?
-       Usually watching MTV Tv programme or I personally use Spotify
Have you ever thought to mix the different type of music and dance on it (for example classical and jazz with hip hop)
-       I wouldn’t like it because there different genres of music for the actual dance genres, and I believe the audience won’t appreciate as much and might result unnatural.
Where do you listen to music and why?
-       Spotify, Youtube and MTV because they are free.
If one of your favourite artists started to produce Vinyl discs will ever buy them?
- I would buy them for a design purpose in my room but I wouldn’t listen to them, some maybe would but you need the actual record player that its’ expensive and not as practical.
What’s one thing that you dislike of technology of nowadays that it’s used in the music industry?
-       The fact that most programmes, or apps costly forcing more and more people illegally downloading music and risking more viruses for their devices.
What do you think about the words practicality and music, do they work together?
-       Yeah sure, if you think whenever we take public transport for example the bus and use our earphones it’s very useful and makes time pass by quicker.
How do you think we will listen to music in the future?
-       Bluetooth earphones will come out soon and maybe later on they will attached to more devices at once like radio and tv so you can always listen to your personal music.
Do you think that vinyl discs, Cds and cassette will be used in the future?
-       Not if only for a collection purpose.
What do you think about the music industry evolution with technology, looking at the music videos as well?
-       It has been incredible the big improvements it has made in such a little time, we can also see it in music video with the different special effects are illustrated, all by the new technology.
What do teenagers look for in music videos, what makes them different?
- The appeal is one of the main things, it’s all around the beauty of people and they usually hire models to appear.
