Today we had lesson
based onto the music videos ideas give by Phill and Luke.
They gave us tips,
advises on what we should do and for the introduction of our ideas.
As most of the student
tend to go onto pop music videos we should choose an unknown songs for several
reasons, so we don’t have any risk once we need to upload the video onto
YouTube, the fact that is unknown the artist and the song give us more space to
create the image of the musician and the marketing, also the video won’t be
compared with a high budget previously done music video, as also the one we
will produce will be a low budget video, so too much competition would be
pressured, also the voice of the musician chosen by us student won’t matching,
clearly representing a cover and loosing the reality of the video.
We should have at
least three elements so we can rotate them to have a more interesting and
creative appeal to it, in case one idea wouldn’t work we have a back up idea,
also we should always have a performing shot as safety net as it can be utilised
through out the whole video, those will make the post production phase a lot
easier.
Those ideas should be
different original, intriguing and memorable.
Without those elements
the video can result as repetitive and boring.
Three minutes of
narrative video could be too risky especially if social issues are included, as
they could create problems with the audience if not well presented.
An instrumental track
is favourable than lyrics, but the genre and cast must be accurately chosen
looking at the tone of voice, appeal and confidence, as the idea of reality
should be one of the main elements to include in it.
For the locations, we
can use the studio were everything would be under control and more effect with
lighting, camera effect can be done. Outdoor location can show something
different and interesting than the usual, however it will take time to get
there, sunlight will be used, and relying on the weather in this country in the
middle put winter term would be too risky, also it could effect the design
style of the music.
All those tips were
really useful as they gave a clearer idea of what we should aim for; also I had
in mind a music video idea that I realise was too unrealistic to make.
Luke advice us to look
at Radar Music Video blog where lots of unknown artist load they music video,
to be inspired by them and maybe still some ideas.
